Our guide to renting

Renting is a hugely competitive market, especially within the capital. If you find your dream property, you’ll want to make sure you’re ready to jump in and reserve. Follow our tips to put your best foot forward, before and during your tenancy.

Before you rent

TIP ONE

Understand your budget, considering any added costs such as council tax. Make sure the home is ideal for you.

TiP TWO

Have a deposit saved and ready to go. Typically, you’ll be asked for 5 weeks’ rent upfront.

TIP THREE

Let your reference know to look out for an email or call. You don’t want your application to be delayed due to a junk folder mishap.

When renting a property, finding your perfect home can sometimes be challenging but if you can tick three or four of your must haves from your wish list and compromise on the other requirements then this is a good sign that the property is well suited for you

TIP Four

Find out who you need to speak to when certain issues arise. This could be the utility supplier, property manager or the landlord themselves.

TIP Five

Look after the property as if it were your own. With regular cleaning, replacing light bulbs and general upkeep, you’ll be on track to getting your deposit back.

TIP SIX

Make it your own, without leaving a mark. Add personal touches with rugs, cushions, blankets and greenery. Even go one step further and change the cupboard handles to your style (making sure to swap back at the end!)
